Submission Instructions
All manuscripts for any technical topic of the D, A, T, and E tracks must be submitted for review electronically, following this instructions.
The accepted file format is PDF. Any other format and manuscripts received in hard-copy form will not be processed.
Papers can be submitted for either formal oral presentation or interactive presentation. Oral presentations require novel and complete research work supported by experimental results. Interactive presentations are expected to articulate emerging and future design, verification, or test problems including work-in-progress and identify open problems that merit innovative future research.
Submissions must not exceed 6 pages in length for oral presentation papers and 4 pages in length for interactive presentation papers, including references. Submission in topic A8 (Industrial Experiences Brief Papers) cannot exceed 2 pages in length and must be industrial-centric on both the content and the majority of authors’ affiliations.
WARNING: It is not possible to modify the list of authors and the order once the paper is submitted and the deadline is expired and if the paper is accepted, this information will be the one used for the final publication.
To respect the efforts of reviewers and in the interest of fairness to all prospective authors, we require that all submissions follow the formatting and submission rules. Submissions that violate these instructions may not be reviewed, at the discretion of the Programme Chair, in order to maintain a review process that is fair to all authors.
- Papers must be submitted in printable PDF format
- Paper format: A4 (210 × 297 mm)
- Text must be minimum 10pt Times font.
- Do not use baselinestretch to compress text
Reviewing will be double-blind. Therefore, do not include any author names on any submitted documents except in the space provided on the submission form. You must also ensure that the metadata included in the PDF does not give away the authors. If you are improving upon your prior work, refer to your prior work in the third person and include a full citation for the work in the bibliography. For example, if you are building on your own prior work in the papers [1, 2, 3], you would say something like: "While prior work did X, Y, and Z [1, 2, 3], this paper additionally does ..., and is therefore much better.” Do NOT omit or anonymize references for blind review. A detailed description of the IEEE authorship guidelines and responsibilities is available here (https://www.ieee.org/publications/rights/author-rights-responsibilities…).
All papers will be evaluated with regard to their suitability for the conference, originality, and technical soundness. The Programme Committee reserves the right to reorient oral presentation papers to interactive presentations and vice versa, to obtain the most suitable presentation format.
WARNING: Pre-print versions of the papers can be published on open access platforms only after acceptance. A paper under review should not be published on any open access platform, since this will identify the authors’ identity to the reviewers, which violates the double review rule which will lead to the rejection of the paper without revision.
Submissions simultaneously under review or accepted by another conference, symposium, or journal will be rejected. Submitted manuscripts must not present material that has been previously published in other indexed research databases (e.g. arXiv), not to compromise the blind review process.
Submitted papers may only be published in open access after the DATE 2022 TPC Meeting (Thursday, 04 November 2021 AoE).
Further Instructions for Special Session Submissions
In addition to the above-stated important instructions, e.g. w.r.t. author list and double submissions, please adhere to the following:
Session Chair/Co-Chair: Every special session submission must name a chair and a co-chair; the chair and the co-chair are responsible for the preparation of the session – e.g. making sure that all presentations are timely uploaded – and for the monitoring of the session; they cannot be selected among the moderators/panelists, or speakers/presenters.
Camera-Ready and Presentation
Authors of accepted papers will prepare the camera-ready version of the paper, adhering to the IEEE Proceedings format and will be checked through PDF eXpress. A recorded video presentation of the paper is also required, according to guidelines that will be made available.
Registration Rule for All Accepted Papers
It is mandatory that at least one author of each accepted paper attends the session and presents the work. Please note that each paper shall be accompanied by at least one full conference registration at the speaker rate (i.e., two speaker registrations are needed for two accepted papers, e.g. from the main author or a co -author of the paper). An author per paper is expected to attend the session where the paper is discussed, otherwise the paper will be deleted from the proceedings afterwards (despite full payment at the speaker rate).
1. Scientific Papers for Oral Presentation (all topics but A8)
DATE seeks submissions of original, unpublished scientific work in one of its four tracks (D, A, T, and E) and 31 topics (for topic A8, see Industrial Experiences Brief Papers); for track and topic list, see Tracks and Topics list.
Scientific Papers for Oral Presentation will be evaluated with regard to their suitability for the conference, originality, and technical soundness. They require novel and complete research work supported by experimental results. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings (max 6 pages) and will be presented in either 30-minute ("long") or 15-minute ("short") slots in the conference programme in front of an audience. The Programme Committee reserves the right to reorient Oral-Presentation papers to Interactive-Presentation, to obtain the most suitable presentation format (for Interactive Presentations, see Interactive Presentations).

4. Special Initiative on Autonomous Systems Design (ASD)
DATE 2022 will host for the third year a two-day initiative on Autonomous Systems Design: Fueled by the progress of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems become more and more integral parts of many Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) applications, such as automated driving, robotics, avionics and industrial automation. Autonomous systems are self-governed and self-adaptive systems that are designed to operate in an open and evolving environment that has not been completely defined at design time. This poses a unique challenge to the design and verification of dependable autonomous systems. The DATE 2022 Initiative on Autonomous Systems Design will include peer-reviewed papers, invited contributions and interactive sessions addressing these challenges.
More details and a specific call for contributions can be found online: www.date-conference.com/asd
Submissions should be submitted before Sunday, 12 September 2021 AoE. Submissions need to be made on-line via the following URL:

5. Tutorials
DATE 2022 tutorials are designed to provide audiences with introductions to important topics in DATE technical areas as well as hands-on tutorials on design automation tools. Early career professionals as well as graduate students will benefit from the introductory-level material on these important topics and tools. Mid-career professionals can also benefit from the tutorials to extend their horizons. We welcome submissions for tutorial presentations in DATE technical areas.
Technical tutorials on selected topics will be given by leading experts in their respective fields. The submission should motivate the topic and its relevance for both academia and industry, specify whether it covers foundational topics or cutting-edge ones, describe the target audience (expected type of attendees? expected number? match with typical DATE audience?), the reason for a tutorial (why a tutorial, why now). Hands-on tutorials are welcomed. Moreover, the submission should include a brief abstract with a list of learning objectives, and a clear planning hereto (organisation in sessions, possible speakers, what will be done to attract the audience), and the DATE Topic to which it is more closely related. A tutorial submission example is available on the DATE website. We target few top-quality well-attended tutorials. In particular, we look for hands-on and tutorials on fundamentals which should clearly identified in the proposal. Extended conference talks will not be accepted as tutorials.
